I have a sticky issue for a Mini DisplayPort connector with through hole pins.

The holes are recommended at 0.6mm but there are holes only 1mm apart!

So, in order to maintain a clearance of say 0.15mm between pads I get 0.85mm diameter pad (compared to recommended pad of 1.1mm for 0.6mm hole).

So, the question is, which 'rules' are best to follow.

I am inclined towards maintaining the pad to pad spacing and having a tight annular ring, rather than compromise pad to pad spacing for a larger ring and risk bridging.

Any guidance on this appreciated.

Cheers!

It looks like the pins are rectangular, max 0.25mm wide, so maybe I can also shrink the hole from 0.6mm to .55 or even 0.5mm...?

A 0.25 mm square pin size could fit easily into a 0.55 mm hole, but still that's a 0.95 mm pad per Proportional Padstack.
