Are there any plans for inclusion of a 'Pin in Paste' hole size calculator? Or does anybody have any credible information regarding making this calculation.

Pin-in-Paste has been a feature in Footprint Expert from the first release.
Tools > Options > Console > Generate Through-hole Paste Mask This will add paste mask to all through-hole footprints. You can turn it on to create an entire library with Pin-in-Paste technology using your existing FPX file library. You can add a Density Level (Suffix) modifier to identify the footprints that have Paste Mask. I recommend "P" or "PIP". Use the "Overwrite Footprint Name Suffix" option right above the "Generate Through-hole Paste Mask" button. |

Hi Tom,
I know we have had the ability to include the paste mask in through-hole footprints. I was wondering whether there was an actual calculator for getting the hole-to-lead ratio correct for the purpose of PIP technology? |

There is not a Pin-in-Paste calculator as there is no guidance from any world standards group like IPC.
When I see a Pin-in-Paste in the mfr. recommended pattern, they normally call out the paste mask size. If you have a known calculator for Pin-in-Paste technology, please send it to us. |

There is a feature in Footprint Expert called "Incremental Pad Stack" in which the pad size annular ring gets bigger an bigger depending on the terminal lead size.
The calculation is - Pad Size is 1.5X of the hole size. 1 mm hole = 1.5 mm pad (0.25 annular ring) 2 mm hole = 3.0 mm pad (0.50 annular ring) 3 mm hole = 4.5 mm pad (0.75 annular ring) 4 mm hole = 6.0 mm pad (1.00 annular ring) The hole size is calculated from the max. lead diameter. So the 1.1 scale paste mask over pad size should be adequate, but I see Samtec connectors call out large paste mask sizes in their datasheets. |
