Hi,

We use the _EBC   and _GSD to name our SOT23 transistor, and is incorported into the IPC name.

How do we achieve the same with series SOT23 diodes, where we have for example:

Anode - Anode/Cathode - Anode

or Anode - Cathode/Anode - Cathode

we don't want to use pin numbering as e have had infinite problems in the past using numbing methods

Look forward to an answer ( sorry if this one has been asked before)

Cheers

I recommend this Footprint Naming Convention because you will never get it wrong -

MfrName_MfrPartNumber

That is the footprint naming convention for all connectors and special unique packages.

It's really the universal Footprint Naming Convention of the future.

Component manufacturer's are creating unique packages that do not fall within the IPC-7351 Naming Convention.

So half your library footprint name are IPC-7351 and half are MfrName_MfrPartNumber

Eventually, the Unique Packages will out number the Standard Packages and the IPC-7351 naming convention will fade away. It's already starting to fall apart even with Standard Packages.

If 2, 3 or 4 standard packages have the same identical dimensions but their tolerances are all different, you will end up with different footprints with the same IPC-7351 footprint name.
