I recommend this Footprint Naming Convention because you will never get it wrong -
MfrName_MfrPartNumber That is the footprint naming convention for all connectors and special unique packages. |

It's really the universal Footprint Naming Convention of the future.
Component manufacturer's are creating unique packages that do not fall within the IPC-7351 Naming Convention. So half your library footprint name are IPC-7351 and half are MfrName_MfrPartNumber Eventually, the Unique Packages will out number the Standard Packages and the IPC-7351 naming convention will fade away. It's already starting to fall apart even with Standard Packages. If 2, 3 or 4 standard packages have the same identical dimensions but their tolerances are all different, you will end up with different footprints with the same IPC-7351 footprint name. |
