A few years ago, I read Mr. Hausherr’s article about PCB design grid systems and found it very effective and beneficial. I am aware of the article itself is quite dated and these days 10um grid is more prevalent but 50um grid still proves useful for two thirds of my current designs.

I’m using 50um grid system down to 0402 (imp.) chip component sizes without issues but creating symmetrical and evenly dividable patterns for proper placement (including courtyard) requires a good deal of manual effort. When I use LE Pro (free edition) for this tasks, I sometimes find generated components are not suitable for the grid system even I forced some settings, i.e., pad and placement roundoff errors to +-0.05mm.

My question is about the creation of parts with LE that is “compliant” or usable with a 50um grid system. Is there a set of parameter settings definition that adjusts appropriate fields accordingly?

Regards.

The FPX file library contain just the package dimensions, other settings for pad width length, width, shape and spacing are set in Preferences, which are all user-definable.

The round-off values for pad size and spacing are located in "Preferences > Terminals > Settings".
