Is there a true definition for a "standard header"? I have heard the term used through the years but is a standard header truly a defined part? I did a quick search of various headers and found different lead sizes & shapes. For example PADS library calls out HDR16, HDR18 etc, with several different sizes of holes. Header datasheets from different manufacturers had square, round, .40-.67 mm pins in the few that I checked. So is there a true "standard header" or is this an antiquated term carried over?

The standard header has a 0.25" square pin on 2.54 mm (0.10") pin pitch.

The new 2.0 mm pitch is trying hard to replace it.

In fact, the pin size of the standard header is 0.025" or 0.64 mm
