Several connectors, modules, etc. specify the PCB Edge.  It would be nice to have a line draw feature for PCB Edge that can be mapped to a user-defined layer on export.

We already have the ability to insert a Line with a user defined length, width, location and rotation.

But you're asking for more Layer assignments beyond Legend and Assembly.

Is the Drill Drawing layer good enough? The reason is that Library Expert interfaces to 23 CAD tools and we need layers that they all have in common. I think every CAD tool has a Drill (Fabrication) Drawing  layer.

That was why I suggested the ability to create a layer in Library Export that is normally ignored unless it is mapped in the Build process and mapped to a specific layer.  I.e. it puts the responsibility on the user to map it to the correct layer dependent on tool flow used and the existence of that layer in that flow.

Any updates on this?  We are running into more and more instances where we might want to put notes or sketches on a layer other than Legend or Assembly.  We typically map to a DESIGN_NOTES layer.  Parts such as sensors, LEDs may have specific layout requirements that we like to capture in the footprint besides PCB edge on connectors.  Ideally, we want this data in FPX so we can export to the multiple tool chains that we utilize and the data is consistent.

V2018 Library Expert is stable and only selective new features are being added and all bugs are being fixed.

All PCB Libraries programming effort is involved in the development of a complete 100% rewrite in V2019 that will also include schematic symbols.

You will have increased flexibility in V2019 to do whatever you want for any Standard or Non-standard package and Connectors.

A bit off-topic: if V2019 will be completely rewritten, is it possible to make it cross-platform (Windows, Linux, MacOS)?

I'm not sure. The code is being written in C# for the foundation with WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) for the forms.

The new rewrite will be the best program we ever created in the past 15 years and it will be in development years after we release it.
