This common part does not have a Template even in the paid licensed version, I'm not sure why there is  not a comprehensive template for an app that calls itself "PCB Libraries".

I think ALTIUM Libraries covers even more templates than this stand alone software.

Please update this dated software with the newer parts that are being used now & even adding those common parts that will be used still in the future like SMD connectors, SOT89, DFN type MOSFETS, USB connectors etc.

& If these are already present please guide this lost engineer Wink

Thank you

Footprint Expert does not support component packages with irregular pad shapes.

These are considered non-standard packages because every mfr. has a different version.

This would be a challenge to automate 3D STEP models.

However, you can search www.pcblibraries.com/POD and search for the Case Code SOT89.

Or you can purchase POD credits here - https://www.pcblibraries.com/POD and we will create any non-standard footprint per the mfr. recommended pattern.

thank you for the information given, i would relay this to my superiors who is pushing me to make footprints in FE even though I told them that the templates are not present.

I hope future versions would have the option for other irregular shapes of components & that would be a users prerogative.

I just wish designer would have been more intuitive & easier to use.

Pin 2 on the SOT89 is an irregular shaped pad.

Irregular shaped pads can be contoured in your CAD tool as Copper Polygons.

Just create the basic footprint in FP Designer and edit it in your CAD tool library editor.

We now give 18,600 Case Code library parts with the installation of Footprint Expert Enterprise.
  • BGA
  • Connectors
  • Semiconductors
  • SM Discrete
  • TH Discrete
You'll find multiple SOT89 footprints from multiple mfr.'s in the SM Discrete library.

You will also see that some Pin 2's are rectangular shaped and some have chamfered pads.

According to IPC-7351, the SOT89 is a standard package, but the component manufacturer's have made it non-standard.
