I can see the current Console Options file location at the bottom of the Footprint Expert Options screen.

This correctly points to my custom options file.

When I make a change and SAVE, it saves to the default "console options" file in the Footprint Expert program folder and not to the file at the custom file location.

There are 2 Option Files. "Console" and "Your Master" options.

You cannot rename "Console" options.

To find out more about "Options", look on your computer in this folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PCB Libraries\Footprint Expert 23\Documents

You will find these User Guide documents:
  • Charter 1 Footprint Expert Console Options.pdf
  • Charter 2 Footprint Expert Calculator Options - Pad Stack Rules.pdf
  • Charter 3 Footprint Expert Calculator Options - Drafting.pdf
  • Charter 4 Footprint Expert Calculator Options - Fiducials.pdf
  • Charter 5 Footprint Expert Toolbar Icons and Menu Options.pdf

The first thing I did when setting up the software, was do a save-as, creating my own master options. That is the one I referenced in my first post and which shows as path to this file at the bottom of the options screen.

When I make changes to the options, it is NOT that file that updates.

Why is that?

I did not try to rename the ConsoleOptions.opt file in the program folder. It is that one that updates when I make changes.

When you open "File > Options" for the first time, all the option cells are grayed out (except Console Options). You can't edit the "Internal Default" options.

When you select "File > Save As > Your Master .opt" all the grayed out cells turn on.

All the edits that you make to "Pad Stack Rules", "Drafting", "Fiducials", "Components" and "Terminals" are saved to your Master Option file.

You can have as many "Master Option" files as you want to produce different libraries for specific applications.

Console Option edits are saved to a different file - ConsoleOptions.opt

Thanks for your patience Tom.

This is what I didn't understand:

Console Option edits are saved to a different file - ConsoleOptions.opt
