I'm making footprints for some JEDEC TO-263 (D2PAK) packages. In a number of the variants, the thermal tab increases in width above the body of the part.

My concern is that if I set E1 to the narrower dimension of the tab, it will solder okay, but the 3D model, courtyard, and outlines will be incorrect.

If I set E1 to the widest extent of the pad, the pad will be swimming in solder and won't self center.

How have other people dealt with this? (I'm currently evaluating PCB Library Expert to see if it's better than the built in functionality of Altium.

I'm hoping for a solution where standard packages don't require hand tweaks.)

All irregular shape pads are done internally at PCB Libraries in PADS Layout and then we add that data to this folder on your computer -
C:\Program Files (x86)\PCB Libraries\Library Expert 2017\Libraries\PADS to CAD

Watch this video of the Tool Box. You only need to watch the first minute.
