Can someone determine what component this is in the attachment?

It's designation is E1 but i cannot determine further.  it measures open with 0 Capacitance.

It looked like a diode at first but that's not it.

It has a purple band a black and a red.  When the picture is zoomed it looks like a fuse inside.

I'm thinking some sort of overvoltage protection like an MOV or TVS or something?

Any help would be appreciated.
