Hello,

I am wondering what is the difference between PCB Library Expert versions for OrCAD Allegro vs Layout vs PCB?

Layout is the cheapest, followed by PCB, Allegro is the most expensive, why is this?

Thank you.

The Library Expert for Allegro and OrCAD PCB generate a script file that needs to get run in order to build the footprints in Allegro and OrCAD PCB. The script is automatically generated by the Library Expert and is slightly different between the two (Allegro and OrCAD PCB). The Allegro version also allows for SKILL scripting, whereas the OrCAD PCB does not. I’ve heard of some customers tweaking the script once it’s generated so they get the OrCAD PCB script to work with Allegro. Of course, any updates that are specific to a format/version will naturally be made/applied to that format/version only.

Regards,
Nick

Layout is the older version/format; OrCAD PCB is basically a lite version of Allegro.
