It would be must more convenient to be able to import from POD directly into the currently selected library instead of downloading a new fpx file for each part. |

The PCB Library Expert to POD interface is "under construction". Nick and the programmers are working on the ability to directly upload from & download to Library Expert. The POD will not be built by PCB Libraries, Inc. alone, but by users worldwide uploading their FPX file data. Also, right now while you're waiting for this new feature, you can download and import multiple FPX files from any folder. i.e.: download 20 - 25 POD parts as individual files but import them into Library Expert with Click (the first FPX file) > Shift Click (the last FPX file) and import all of them into the same FPX file. |

I have some questions on the future development/Strategy of "POD" My Current Manager at Philips asked :- "can you try to get some strategy
information from PCB Libraries about their plans to extend this “parts on
demand database” with getting more complete catalogues from component
manufacturers in? I think the focus should be also more on complex parts like
connectors, because then also the STEP format will be more used (meaning also
their additional license). Thus information about their plans and activities
might help to understand the future value of this database and the concepts
around." I understand that the current strategy is just aimed at (as you state above) "users worldwide uploading their FPX file data", but the question is are any component manufactures involved anywhere in this process yet? or are there talks? I know things are in development and anything might be possible. but please could you try to spell it out to me were things are at the moment with this strategy? Thanks in advance! |

We have started talking with a few component manufacturers as well as distributors. We most certainly do not want to build everything manually. Keep in mind though, only the standard parts (symmetrical w/ similar size/shape pads) can be mass build/translated from manufacturer data. Other parts will have to be build using the FP Designer module or made available in P/D files that get translated to the various CAD tools using the Library Expert. |

We do plan on implementing a new feature for customers to auto-upload parts from Library Expert to POD. Like Nick mentioned, PCB Libraries, Inc. can't upload 50 million mfr. part numbers by ourselves. We need to involve the global electronics industry and make it really easy for everyone to upload missing mfr. part numbers. |

We are considering upgrading to 2014, but currently are still on 2013.19, I have been experimenting with the new "POD" site to see if its possible for me to download any part footprints.
If I search for Fairchild Semi Part Number - FAN760 Case Code - empty I get results, however when I click on the "Footprint Available", or "3D Model Available", link nothing happens. Almost like a dead url or broken link were nothing happens, as there is no url path. Is the POD live? and can it be used for 2013.19 users? |

When the buttons are grayed out, please make sure you are logged in with the account that your license is associated with, and the buttons will be enabled. You also need to have the currently released version - reason being is the FPX format will inevitably get updated from time to time, so access is limited to customers who have the latest version of the Library Expert that can properly read/process the latest FPX format.

Hi Nick, so that means we would need to upgrade to 2014.02 ? to use POD?
we are currently on 2013.19, yes the buttons are greyed out.
