PCB Libraries has been improving the Library Expert support for 3D STEP. The Library Expert currently outputs to 21 different CAD formats and 3D STEP. It allows users to specify preferred rotation and colors (see image) for various aspects of components for 50+ component families, then automatically output from any of 1 million parts. It also allows users to automatically generate the models by simply entering a set of component dimensions.
The Library Expert simultaneously processes preferences for footprints (pad shapes, tolerance, line widths, rotation, contour courtyards, etc), so one can get both footprint and 3D STEP model, and Schematic Symbol support is on the horizon. Parts can be rebuilt with modified colors and preferences either one-by-one, or entire libraries at a time.
