I cannot find a means of creating standard footprints for surface mount power transistors for example:
ON Semi NTMFS5C604NLT3G (5.15x6.15mm) or
VISHAY SiSH434DN-T1-GE3 (3.3x3.3mm)

The manufacturers variously call these footprints 8-PowerTDFN, 8-PowerVDFN, POWERPAK SO8, 5-DFN, 8-SOFL, SO8FL, 8DFN-EP, ....,    etc for the nominal 5.15 x6.15mm, and 8-TSON, 1212-8S, etc for the nominal 3.3x3.3mm footprints.

These seem to be more or less industry standard footprints but nothing like them appears in the list of SM footprint types/families in either Footprint Expert or the preceeding Library Expert....

likewise footprint naming conventions, apart from using Manufacturer's names is entirely absent.

Is there a plan to include this form of footprint in a future release?

Those are unique custom packages and are considered non-standard components.

You can request the part on POD and we'll create it for you for $10 with a same day turn.

We build the footprint in the SON w/Tab calculator and then move it to FP Designer to fine tune the pad stack placement.

Then we output what we can to the CAD tool and add the remining pieces.

Then we output the CAD data and import into an FPX file and everyone can download it as part of their POD subscription.

Only one person pays to create the original footprint than everyone else gets it for free.
