Author: victorp06
Subject: 2890
Posted: 22 Apr 2021 at 3:21pm

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to use Axial Leadform Calculator of Library Expert version 2016.08 to calculate the pitch for some components. However, it does not match the value I get from IPC 2221a.

As per IPC-2221A, the values to calculate the bending radius (R) should be as shown below:

R = 1 * max. lead diameter (when max. lead diameter up to 0.8 mm)

R = 1.5 * max. lead diameter ( when max. lead diameter from 0.8mm to 1.2mm)

R = 2 * max. lead diameter ( when max. lead diameter larger than 1.2 mm)

However, when checking Library Expert Axial Leadform Calculator the values are calculated as below:

R = 1.5 * max. lead diameter (when max. lead diameter up to 0.8 mm)

R = 1 * max. lead diameter ( when max. lead diameter from 0.8mm to 1.2mm)

R = 2 * max. lead diameter ( when max. lead diameter larger than 1.2 mm)

Why is that difference? Is Library Expert using a different IPC version?

Additionally, the minimum lead length extension value is calculated as 1.5 * max. lead diameter but I could not find the formula in IPC-2221a. How did you reach to this formula?

Thanks for all your help,
