I'm trying to set up for the best SMD hand soldering environment where the layouts will be very relaxed.  Off the cuff, maximal sounds easiest.  However, for fine pitch or leadless devices things might get too close and easy to short with little to no solder mask left between pins. 

If anyone has good preferences that have worked well, I would appreciate hearing.
