Seems to be a problem with finding the license!

Can you please send me a C2V (Customer to Vendor) file? I'll verify the license is properly configured for 2013 and get it updated if needed. Please send it to me directly. You can see our emails at the bottom of the http://www.pcblibraries.com/ContactUs/" rel="nofollow - Contact Us page, or send it to Nick.Ban@...
For instructions on how to create a C2V, see the http://www.pcblibraries.com/products/fpx/userguide/default.asp?ch=75" rel="nofollow - User Guide , only go to Steps 2 - 3, as you already seem to have the drivers installed.

Nick,
I am also getting an unhandled exception, when I click continue it trys to load but wants a license dongle. When I exit the GUI stays on my screen and I have to reboot to clear it.

I had a quick look and I am getting lots of unhandled exception out-of-memory errors plus the screen needs a lot of resizing. I am guessing (and secretly hoping!) that this is because my work PC is Windows XP and I know FPX is written for Win7 and above. Might be able to persuede our IT dept to finally upgrade my machine

Same here. I am running XP though. It lets me open a library, but if I try to view a component it comes up with an out of memory error and displays a black window.

I use XP also but found out I have one of the really old keys, from 2008, and need a new one.

What library/component are you trying to open? Does it cause this problem for any part? I cannot seem to duplicate this error on my end.

Any component. It may be to do with the out of memory errors (My computer has 4G installed).
When I start the program, the splash screen comes up, but never goes away. A window pops up with:
No license was found for this version of PCB Footprint Expert (version 2013)! Program will continue to run without licensed options.
Click ok and a dialog box pops up with:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. Out of memory.
See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Click on continue, open sample library that comes with V2013, double click on any component and I get a black window and a dialog box with:

Under 64-bit windows 7, I don't see the errors mentioned here. I can open libraries, look and edit parts OK. However, I run into two problems:
1) I cannot save libraries, instead I get a "No license found for this option" message box. However, the installed options window reads the USB key properly and shows the correct options enabled.
2) Attempting to build the current footprint causes an exception to be thrown:
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'FPXCAM, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. File name: 'FPXCAM, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' at FPXPCBFormats_DLL.FormTranslateGUI..ctor(List`1& Footprints, String& Suffix, Boolean Multipart, List`1 LicenseList) at ..?(Object , EventArgs ) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.RaiseEvent(Object key, EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripButton.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.HandleClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.HandleMouseUp(MouseEventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.FireEventInteractive(EventArgs e, ToolStripItemEventType met) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStripItem.FireEvent(EventArgs e, ToolStripItemEventType met) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mea) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ScrollableControl.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ToolStrip.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)
Hope this feedback helps.

Ok that fixed the previous two issues for me. Now however, clicking finish in Pkg Designer throws this exception:
************** Exception Text ************** System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at ..(Object , EventArgs ) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

If you open the package designer, set the shape to None and press OK, you get the following errors: "System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at ..( , , LandPatternData& )" "System.OverflowException: Overflow error. at System.Drawing.Graphics.CheckErrorStatus(Int32 status) at System.Drawing.Graphics.FillEllipse(Brush brush, Int32 x, Int32 y, Int32 width, Int32 height) at ..() at ..()"

Is possible to create arbitrary body shapes with the package designer?
|
Posted By: Tom H
Date Posted: 30 Apr 2013 at 6:05pm
Arbitary body shapes are not available in the first release. We need the users to provide feedback. Example: The first new feature should be to make any corner a chamfer or a radius of a specific value. You could chamfer two corners and radius the other 2 corners or whatever combination you want. We need the users to make recommentations for improvements.

The issues that I saw when I played with the LITE version of 2013 on Windows XP have disappeared here too.
I think that I've persueded IT here to give me an upgrade to Win 7 as well - at least they've scheduled it for two weeks time.

Would be nice if I could renumber pins at will? or am i approaching this totally wrong? i would have expected the pin properties to be editable, at least for the pin name, so I could re-number.

Another one, I know its Elementary Dear Watson, but it seems strange to me that the GUI, For Height, Length, and Width is not backed up with a graphic, Just like all your package types.

I made it so easy (I thought) to add pins with automatic ordering I didn't think renumbering would be an issue. But if it is I'll revisit the subject. I like your graphic suggestion, thanks.

I tried using the package designer to create a component. I imported the component into the library. Saved the library. Restarted the program. Opened the library. The part is listed. Double clicked on the component and I get the following error: System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array. at ..(String , , LandPatternData& ) And the part no longer has any pins/pads.

I just tried repeating this a few times. The error only occurs with surface mount pads. Through hole pads seem OK.

Find/Replace
Testing 2013-00 on Win7-x64.
Two issues: A) Can't refine a search using current list
- Opened SAMPLE library.
- Clicked on Find/Replace icon.
- Typed BGA, "Look In" set to current library,
- Clicked LIST ALL
- Typed in 0.80, "Look In" set to current list
- Clicked LIST ALL
The results list 'forgot' about the previous downselect on BGA and listed all those items found in the library with 0.80 including SOT and BGA and QFP. It is as though the CURRENT LIB vs CURRENT LIST didn't affect the second search.
B) Error when refining search using LIST NEXT If, in step 6, I pressed LIST NEXT instead, I will get an "Unhandled Exception ... Current cell cannot be set to an invisible cell" error. A portion of the Details:
************** Exception Text ************** System.InvalidOperationException: Current cell cannot be set to an invisible cell. at System.Windows.Forms.DataGridView.set_CurrentCell(DataGridViewCell value) at ..() at ..(Object , EventArgs ) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

Thank you. I can now set the "Courtyard Outline" and the "3D Model Outline" to layer 27 to stop them ending up on the silkscreen when imported into DipTrace. This last version also seems to fix the problem I had trying so save and load SMT parts created with the package designer.

There has been discussions about the changes to the PADS interface. I noticed that there are no changes in the 2013 version. When do you anticipate those changes will be implemented ?

Date Posted: 16 May 2013 at 6:49am
There will be a ton of updates and changes in V2013 this year. But first we are focused on mission critical features that have the highest priority. - Add a new "Footprint Designer" to double the number of Footprints (including all Connectors and most non-standard packages)
- Add 3D STEP models that auto-generate from FPX files
I expect these things to be completed by July and then we'll take on all the other feature requests.

Please make sure you have the latest Microsoft .NET Framework (version 4.5 currently) from Microsoft. This is normally the #1 culprit that throws these messages on startup. If you still get an error, please contact Support and let us know exactly the steps you are taking to generate that error and we will get it fixed within a couple days. Nick
