Subject: Batch Create Using Calculator Least Environment

Hello, if I open sm.lib and change to the least environment - select all components (or just 1 or a few) then build library selection to output them to CADSTAR they are output with the N suffix and in the nominal size.

As I understand it I should be able to select Least and then output several components in the least dimensions - I should not have to output them individually.

I have confirmed the dimensions are the same - using the same pad code etc.

The same goes for setting the Max environment.

I should not need to change the user preferences and select user environment, I have chosen Least and expect them to be output in the least environment.

Can you please advise if this is a bug ?

Thank you.

You do have to change the "User Preferences" to Least, Nominal or Most prior to batch create.

Did you try that?

Hello Tom,
yes, this is what I had to do, however you have told us that we have to change to user environment for that to be applied.

In that case - what is the least, normal, most environment dropdown for?

If it is only available in individual component view then perhaps it should not be active in library view?

It gives the impression (and there is no information otherwise) that it should change the environment for an output - when it is not doing so.

I would suggest that the environment dropdowns should also change the environment for batch output too.

That's a good suggestion for the "Product Suggestions" forum.

There are several scenarios - What if you want a "Least Environment" but with personal preferences for silkscreen line width or any of the drafting items or design rules. Then you will have to make 3 different UserPreference.dat files and keep the Environment Setting to "User" and just open each .dat file when you want to use it.

Normally, people tend to name their personal user .dat file after their name or company name. So you would have this -
  • MatthewLeast.dat
  • MatthewNominal.dat
  • MatthewMost.dat

It's different if you want to use all the default settings. Then you would simply change the Environment to Least, Nominal or Most prior to Batch Create.

What about the scenario where a new user just selects the least environment? Smile

This is what has been done - using default settings and the least environment - it does not work.

You cannot change the "Environment Level" in the Viewer and "Batch Create" a Least Environment library.

You MUST set the Environment Level in "Setup > User Preferences"

The Environment in the Viewer is meant just for the Viewer and not Batch Creating an FPX file to CAD library.

Why not? Cry

Why is the setting available then?
The impression given from it is that you can change it there, its on a drop down.
I am pretty sure the help even says that's what it is for.

I would suggest then that you add this jewel of info into the help file.  Approve
(Not available during batch create).

The Environment setting in the "Calculator" is available for outputting a single part.

If you want to "Batch Create" an FPX file you have to change the Environment in "Setup > User Preferences".

If you want the "Calculator" drop down to apply to Batch Create, you need to post a "Product Suggestion" (not a bug).

I'll do you a favor and relocate this thread in Product Suggestions forum right now.
