Hi Tom,

Our DFME suggest that the mask should be removed from the gap between two pads for 0201 components. What do you think about this?

Thanks,

Yes, Gang Mask is used when the solder mask sliver is less than 3 mils. i.e.: it's better to have no solder mask than a fine line sliver. I have never heard of assemly solder problems due to no solder mask.

As a matter of fact, I've worked on many RF and Space Satellite boards that did not have any solder mask. But these get tricky because the solder will start to run down the trace during reflow when there is no solder mask.

But for your application, removal of solder mask between pads is common.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your suggestions and we already remved the mask between the pads. When the DFME check the board using Valor, the mask less than 3mil will reported as a silver error and this  is also one of the reason we decide to remove the mask.

Thanks,
