Adding polarity to Assembly is all or nothing.  It would be nice to be able to add polarity by component type.

You have 8 different Polarity Marking options.

You can set the shape, size, location, layer, filled, not filled, rotation, etc.

I think what Craig is saying is that its either added to all or not on all footprints and he wants to be able to define the polarity marker to be added or not by component type.

Not the type or indicator but its presence.

Why, I am not entirely sure - Craig - can you exand on that?

That is correct Matthew.  I can't add a chamfer to the corner of a single QFN assembly layer unless it is all components and types (QFN, BGA, SOIC, etc.)

We like to chamfer BGA but put a hollow circle on SOIC for example.  Right now I can manually add the hollow circle but no way to automatically chamfer the corner of the assembly outline unless it is enabled for all components.

So you want the ability to turn on/off Legend and Assembly Polarity markers per component family instead of All or Nothing and the ability to select the Legend and Assembly Polarity Marker instead of just having a Dot for Legend and a chamfer for Assembly.

Yes.  For example, I want to tailor the polarity as follows:

- SOIC - Legend dot, Assembly dot
- SON - Legend dot, Assembly dot
- QFN - Legend dot, Assembly dot
- BGA - Legend chamfer, Assembly chamfer

There are some cases with the <0.5mm pitch parts where a dot is too large so we want the ability to override at the component level and chamfer instead.

We like the user to manually insert every Polarity Marker with the Shape, Size and Location that you need and save to FPX. This is the main reason why we do not manually add Polarity Marking to Calculator parts that are on POD. We have no idea if the user want's a Triangle, Square, Dot, Plus or where the user wants to locate it or what size the user wants.

The Auto-generation of Polarity Marking is very complex to control the Shape, Size and Location for every component family and auto-size the Polarity Marker per the package size.

We'll see what we cab do to automate V2018.
