How are we supposed to download the new release?

http://www.pcblibraries.com/downloads/FPX%21Library_Expert_2014.asp takes me to a page with the following links.

Viewer does nothing, Upgrade to pro?
That leads to a download the lite version link that then links back to the same links page as above.

Give us a clue chaps....

I also have problems but get taken to a "password" reset page.  When I enter my e-mail address and forum user name I get "Error 16: the password reset request could not be processed".

I get taken to the same page as Mathew now.

I had the password problems too, ending up using IE instead of the normal Firefox so no cookies or password apps were involved.

Please start from here http://www.pcblibraries.com/forum/version-history_forum1.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.pcblibraries.com/forum/version-history_forum1.html  and if you're not watching this forum page I highly recommend that you select "Forum / Watch This Forum" to get instant software release information.

This is where you can download the latest versions and even "sneak releases".

Hi Tom,

that's the link I'm using, from Nick's post, but it goes to a new login page which after I've logged in again takes me to the same page as Mathew inserted into his first post on this topic.

Matthew - the distributors are currently being setup; you will be emailed later today with details.

James - Please make sure you use the email linked with your purchase (Crowcon).

Layouter88 - Please make sure you use the login that is linked with your purchase. In your case, the 'web' address.

The databases have been consolidated, and in the process there may be some issues we need to clarify. However, for the most part the data is pretty accurate and should only allow you to download the version that you have purchased. If you do not see version 2014 and only 2013, a link was now added where you can purchase the upgrade. This is a new page, and in the future, I would also like to add the purchase history here, Key ID, and other infomration you may find helpful.

Here is what the download options should look like now, if yours doesn't look like either, please logout and log back in and it will. If you get the third set of options but you purchased, please confirm that the email you are logged in with is what you purchased with. If it is, contact me offline and I'll get the problem fixed right away.

Any other suggestions?

V2014.01 was temporarily taken off-line for repair due to a faulty .dll file. We've fixed the problem and it should be up and running shortly.

Please check back in an hour or so.

Is this available to all license holders or just the ones that have paid for the update?

If you didn't upgrade from 2013, you will have the latest 2013 link still available and the 2014 will be disabled.

2014.01 was just reposted. Please uninstall the previous version to clear out the bad DLLs and install this latest update.

I have them now thank you.

Is there some information on the viewer?
I.E. what it can & cannot do etc.

I am still struggling.  I registered on the site originally with my Institute of Engineering Technology e-mail address alias which automatically re-directs to my Crowcon e-mail address and that's what I've been using since.

The crowcon e-mail address that you've got on your system has no "user name" to it so I can't log on with it!  I guess you added it as a registered customer? If I try to re-register myself with the crowcon e-mail address I get "this e-mail address is already on the system".

We plan on having a press release on the Viewer next week.

Changing gears, for those who were having problems with the site using Chrome and Opera, you should be all set now.

Names, Usernames, and Emails are required for each account. Can't have an account if any one of these three are missing. If you're not sure what your username is, go to the password reset page, and just enter your email address only, and the username associated with the email you entered will be sent to you.

To make things easier, the username will now also be emailed with the reset password link; the link expires in a day so I figured this isn't a security issue. Please let me know if you think otherwise...

The Library Expert Viewer is a free program and it's intended use is just like any Viewer, to open data to search, find, view and quality control. Two good examples are -

  1. Large company with many EE engineers who need access to the FPX file attributes that contain the Physical and Logical data including the link to the datasheet. The EE engineer can open any .DAT preference file and any FPX file in the Librarian. Maybe the engineers goal is to locate the Footprint Name for their schematic symbol or to verify the size of the Footprint and placement courtyard area or to simply open the latest version of the datasheet.
  2. The Service Bureau that has dozens of customers with different library rules. Give each customer their personal DAT rule file and your entire FPX library so they can see what parts are in your library using the customer rules to view the footprint. They can easily see what parts are not in the library so they can provide the URL link or PDF datasheet. For many service bureau's, PCB library construction is costly to their customer's and they can offer more competitive prices if their customers put the correct Footprint Name in the netlist. However, we understand that some service bureau customers have more money than time so they want the service bureau to be responsible for all PCB library parts, but even large service bureau employees need the LE Viewer in that case.

More to come in the next week or so, especially in our 1st Newsletter.
