When I go to create the footprint, there are two prompts for library name, and one for part type name that I cannot fill in.   I do not understand this at all yet.  Jeff is aware of this question.  But others may benefit when the answer is finally known.

Part Type Name should be greyed out in a multipart operation. In a single part operation, it’ll be the part type name.

Library Name at the top is what the .p/.d or .asc will get named to. The Library Name below the output is the name of the binary library and only applicable when Auto Import is selected. Until then, it should be greyed out.
