The release date for this database was moved to February (this month).

As the POD was developed, regression issues have been getting consistently smaller (especially noticeable since late last year) and we're about to release it.

Respectfully; Is there an actual date that our business can depend on for POD?  The most recent of many dates expressed is "today" March 3rd.   Well?

Gary, we're just about over the obstacles we had to deal with to get POD online. If/when you purchase, you get 5,000 parts to start off with; once POD goes online, these parts will no longer be sent out to customers and you would need to search/download each part as you need them from POD. Customers who buy now get the 5,000 parts, and will have access to POD as soon as it's online.

I am happy to hear progress is being made on your end.  Still no date to offer?

Is there a published list of the 5000 introductory parts?  If not, why?

We have a contract stuck in a holding pattern until a few specific parts can be found/built, most notably case 987-03 (112 pin LQFP 20x20x0.65).  If I knew this part was on your list of 5000, or coming very shortly (actual date), I would happily move ahead with your tools.  Otherwise the search continues.

I was unable to successfully create this part using your "lite" version.  The moment I enter extent dimensions 22x22 the tool lists 88 pin count and nothing I can find seems to allow me to create the full 112 pin footprint.  I concluded that this is either a limitation of the lite version or requires changes to the preference files which are not editable in the lite version.  The help/videos seem to focus more on special cases than on daily library tasks.  We do not have the luxury of hiring a full time librarian, so parts are a real time sink for us.

I am reluctant to make "yet another investment in new tools" unless I am sure it will allow us to move ahead.  Tool changes are not something we take lightly.  Anyway, I like what I see, I just need to see more.   Thanks

We're working feverishly to get it released ASAP. I'm directly involved in this myself and am seeing the final issues being resolved. I can see POD going live in the next day or two at most.

The list of 5,000 parts is in a PDF file that gets installed with the Library Expert - look in the default program for a PDF file called "Footprint_Expert_Customer_Library_Content"

The default folder is "C:\Program Files (x86)\PCB Libraries\Library Expert 2013"

Jeff will respond to the limitation issue momentarily.

Nothing limits the pin count.
To get 112 pins you must enter the number of pins on the X and Y sides not the dimensions of the X & Y sides.
For the part you're trying to build I suspect that value is 28 x 28.

This part can be built very easily (when you use the correct number of pins/side, per Jeff's post) - I built it in about a minute.

I would highly recommend that you bite the bullet and purchase the tool - you won't be disappointed (and it will save you hours of effort).

Nick, Jeff, Ian, thanks to all of you.

Yes I see now that I entered dimensions instead of pins,,, gazing waaay too long at datasheets I guess.  And yes, I took the leap and purchased the tool.  However, while waiting for my key to arrive, I tried installing the evaluation license and ran into a "Sentinel driver incompatibility with Windows 8.1 AMD x64."  The first attempt reported the incompatible driver.  Subsequent attempts fail with the following:

Looking at the DOS window, the bat file is looking in a folder \FPX 2013\HASP.
My installation created \Library Expert 2013\HASP
thus the file not found error.   I can try editing the bat file I suppose.  Not sure what to do about the driver incompatibility.  The error dialog had a button to check online, but clicking it did nothing obvious.
Ah the woes of setup...

What has happened to parts on demand?

Everyone who has asked has not got a conclusive answer as to when it will be available and the date just keeps on moving forward.

I have given up and started making all my parts or using my EDA tools as Im not sure when it will come.

I know these things take time but Jan, Feb, March, April soon...

Each date mentioned has passed.

Its only useful if its working or there is communication about where the projects at.

We're a small company with limited resources and reinventing ourselves to accomplish something very big. As we've outdone ourselves in the past ( http://www.pcblibraries.com/Products/Compare/LPWizard-LibraryExpert" rel="nofollow - LP Wizard to Library Expert ), we're are about to outdo ourselves again.

Is there a list of POD parts available?
I was trying to find a part that is listed in your power point presentation but got no results.

I can't find a match for this part number on TI - 74ABT162245DFFRE4

I found http://www.ti.com/product/SN74ABT162245?keyMatch=SN74ABT162245DFFRE4&tisearch=Search-EN" rel="nofollow - DGG" to get the footprint.

There are over 75,000 TI parts on POD right now but if you want to add a new part that doesn't exist go to Request a Part here -

We are sometimes having trouble finding a part in the POD data base.  Can we use wild cards to tune a search, not just at the end of the string?

And to rephrase the request above, can we download a full listing that we can search our own way?

Posted By: Nick B
Date Posted: 06 Nov 2014 at 1:38pm

The full listing is not available this moment, but we do have FPX files for 5,000 unique component packages that can map out to most of the "current" parts on POD and then some - these files allow you to be much more flexible in your search. Users who have the latest 2015 license can download these Customer FPX files from http://www.PCBLibraries.com/downloads" rel="nofollow - www.PCBLibraries.com/downloads

Nick

Are you saying that if I want a specific 0603 resister, I should search for 0603 and see what comes up  (and then duck)

Posted By: Tom H
Date Posted: 06 Nov 2014 at 1:55pm

Please download the 5,000 case codes in SM, TH and BGA FPX files.

You will find several 0603 capacitors and resistors.

We have a license for V2015.  We have the 5000 case codes.  We want to be able to search for a specific R or C etc part number from a particular manufacture, eg, AVX.  There could be a lot of them, and I can see how this could rapidly become an unruly task for you.  Perhaps, its out of the question.  So maybe there are other ways to search such as for all "AVX, 0603, 10%" or something.  Then from the hits maybe we can find a part number we wanted.

Date Posted: 06 Nov 2014 at 2:18pm

The current POD (beta) allows partial search for Part Number and Case Codes. The other fields at this time are not searchable, but we will soon update POD so they are.

OK, good.  Note that you can download from DigiKey the results of a search to a spreadsheet.  The package information is there.   Using that you actually could find part numbers to go with packages for different manufacturers and specific values or ranges of values.  Pretty cool.

You promised to us that POD will be available in February of 2014 for V2014. But now we need to upgrade for V2015?!

Posted By: Tom H
Date Posted: 14 Nov 2014 at 10:20am

The Library Expert and FP Designer has many new features in 2015.

In order to implement new features we had to upgrade the FPX file.

The new V2015 FPX file for FP Designer is not backward compatible with V2014.

We create footprints for "Request a Part" and send them to V2014 users and they can't open them.

Users want new features and new features require changes to save that data in FPX format.

I appreciate the new features, but when I upgraded from 2012 to 2013 and then 2013 to 2014, each time I had an expectation that I would be getting roughly a year of upgrades (as indicated by the revision matching the year of purchase.)

Further, I upgraded to 2014 with the expectation that I would get Parts on Demand shortly thereafter since it was continuously being advertised as just a week or two away.  It is incredibly frustrating to be asked to upgrade AGAIN to get what I thought I purchased 6 months ago.

I know PCB Libraries is a very small company, and I know you have to keep making money to be able to keep developing the system.  I'm not sure what to do about this - I just wanted to be sure you know how frustrated I am by what feels like a bait-and-switch on my last upgrade.  I'm quite sure I'm not alone in this feeling.

Posted By: Tom H
Date Posted: 20 Nov 2014 at 3:23am

There is no need to upgrade. Parts on Demand is available for V2012, V2013, V2014 and V2015.

The only parts you will not be able to use are FP Designer parts that were created using V2015 because it has many new features for creating custom pad stacks and this new data needed to be added to the FPX file in which V2014 cannot read.

Keep V2014 as long as you want and access Parts on Demand.

We plan to add several million new part numbers to POD in the next couple months.

If you do not upgrade, just make sure not to use up your credits to download the non-standard FP Designer parts as you will not be able to use them. That is why we recommend upgrading to the latest version, we want to avoid the frustration/clarification required for those who do not understand the difference between the two types of parts.

All updates are provided for the currently released/purchased version. If you upgrade to version 2015, you get all updates for version 2015.
