Whilst looking at some of my libraries I've noticed that at least one manufacturers name has changed from the early templates provided with FPX to the current list.  We've had earlier templates that listed "TI", and "TI (Texas Instruments)" but the current Manufacturer list has "Texas Instruments".

I don't know how many other examples there may be of this.

My suggestion is to add a Tools > Regenerate Library > Manufacturer Name item added to FPX, like the current tools to update footprint names and descriptions.

The non-standard footprint name is TI_PartNumber but the Manufacturer Name in the FPX file is Texas Instruments. Here is an example in the FP Designer module. When you insert a new footprint into a FPX file, the Mfr. Name, Mfr. Part Number and Footprint Name are auto-populated into the FPX file.

We're getting ready to release "Parts on Demand" (POD) and we need to be consistent with every manufacturer. I think that everyone knows TI represents Texas Instruments.

Here is a sample of what the POD search engine looks like. There should be an announcement any time now that there are over 127,000 parts ready for download and we're adding between 10,000 and 20,000 new Part Numbers every week. Then soon we will let the entire electronics industry upload their FPX file library data to the POD Cloud. V2014 of PCB Library Expert will have a built in POD browser and upload/download feature. The future is looking good.

Thanks, but I already understood about the non-standard name.  What I was getting at is that in the much earlier versions of FPX when you created the templates for the different manufacturers rather then the current version, we had a Texas Instruments template and you've changed the value of the manufacturer field in the templates and now the current version, so that there's some inconsistancy in there now.

I agree most people will know TI, Texas etc. but I was only using this as one example.  I don't know how many other manufacturers' names that you've changed slightly in the early templates to now.

I'm not that bothered but I didn't know if this would affect the consistancy that you might like to obtain in the POD which is why I raised it.

As the POD was in the preliminary stages, the names were modified a bit. As we're getting ready to release POD (primarily in the last couple weeks), we've established a stable naming list. This list will be distributed with the Library Expert -- ie., the "ManufacturerList.txt".

As we work to integrate the Library Expert with the online database, and having a stable list is key.

By the way POD is up to 134,000 and more stable than ever... the POD will be released at the same time as the registration. Just cleaned out some more newly found regression bugs over the weekend and am making good headway into the estimated 5 hours I thought I had left as of about Friday. Smile
