Hi Tom, I tried using FPE and saw that in the footprint tab it did not show dimensions for pads, outlines, etc. So you cant use FPE like the old LP Wizard Calculator?

We allow querying of each specific dimension by using the viewer. Select the layer which has the object you want to query (for example if you want Silkscreen, select the Silkscreen layer), then "Right-Click" and select from the options available to see the dimensions. This method allows you to get much more data than was provided before in the LP Wizard.

The new PCB Footprint Expert has many more features than the LP Wizard.
The Footprint Tab allows the user to enter the component mfr. recommended pad size and space. Like Nick mentioned you can now select Lines or Shapes, Text, Pads and RMB Query. This provides the layer, line width, pad size, padstack name and you can change the Pin Name in most component families from Numeric to Alpha-numeric or visa-versa. We realize that the program needs a "Help" menu and some training videos which are in production right now. |

Hi Tom,
Not sure if I've asked this before but is there a way to print out a "datasheet" of a newly created part (or any part really) like we were able to do in the LP Wizard? That is a good way of sharing info with others. Thanks Bryan |

We're currently focused on developing support for 3D and allowing users to create footprints for non-standard parts (effectively doubling the capacity of the LP Wizard!!). The support for non-standard parts will be available in v2013 with the Package Designer module. Once things stabilize, we will look at a print feature for it all.

Yes, the print feature works great for "Standard" packages but today only 50% of the component packages are Standard.
I do think that some day there will be some kind of dimensioned image for the Component and Footprint, but we need to prioritize the workload on automation for non-standard packages and 3D modeling. |

Please review the comparison between the LP Wizard and PCB Library Expert -
This comparison list offers a good side-by-side list comparison of the major features and benefits of each... |

Is anyone still interested in the "Print Datasheet" feature for PCB Library Expert dimensions?
